Strength TogetHER 19 -Session 3

3rd July 2021, Saturday.

"The sharpest minds often ruin their lives by overthinking the next step ,while dull win the race with eyes closed."

Because of overthinking and doubting oneself the confident one looses it's race whether it's of life or a game while the other who don't even think of making to the end wins the race.

Facilitated by 'Lokopokar' youth organization which focuses on the development of youth via virtual program. Among them, 'Strength togetHER' is established especially for girls and young women irrespective of their backgrounds. This platform helps them to open up with their personal stories, experiences, ideas and view which helps them to grow and learn .

Our moderator for the session was Miss Rosy Karna, currently pursing her doctorate degree in clinical psychology. She is doing her practicum at the community based mental health clinic, Community health awareness council (CHAC). She dreams to establish a better mental health care system for which she has been working really hard and self interacting with the youths to know their problems and what they are going through in silent .

The session started from 12 pm and went until 1 via the virtual world of zoom application with an active participants of around 20+ girls.

Starting off the session, we had four speakers who shared their stories and experiences-

-Our 1st speaker shared her personal story of how she overthinks every little thing she sees or hears. She claimed that no matter how much she tries she ends up thinking the worst case scenario and ends up hurting herself . She mentioned her friend's story of how overthinking destroyed her mental peace and depressed her. Fortunately the young girl was able to overcome this crisis and win the battle within her.

-After graduating from high school ,everyone goes through tons of possibilities and choices to make for their career. Our 2nd speaker also went through the same . She said how she was at crossroads of her future were she wanted to study abroad and she also wanted to pursue her study in the field of law here at Nepal which has been her dream since childhood. Thinking about dilemma she felt frustrated, sad and depressed. She told that everyone looks happy and clam unlike her. She mentioned how her family and friends supported her, comforted her and guided her throughout the process. Eventually, she could come out the dilemma and make a firm decision.

-"Having one goodnight sleep is very tough "said our 3rd speaker. With great courage and faith our third speaker shared what she is going through currently. She said that everything seems fine with her but she has been drained emotionally. She has drastic mood swings and anger issues. She also mentioned that what she overthinks actually becomes a reality sometimes. She told that how she has started avoiding and ignoring everyone around her.

-Our 4th speaker conveyed her idea about how overthinking can affect and destroy ones life and even career.People with mental breakdown are isolating themselves and living their lives in misery. For some people, it may be a matter of attention seeking but when you face really face it, it is one of dangerous disease one can ever face and the person who has already fought the battle is the real superhero.

Listening to everyone's story ,one of our participants umuted herself and said that she could relate to everyone as if it's her own story. She said that how her thinking process becomes endless and turns into overthinking.

After listening to everyone's story our moderator gave us a suspicious smile and told how proud she was of us for opening up in an open platform. She was grateful how everyone came with their stories and experiences. She said that it's human nature to overthink everyone over thinks ,she herself overthinks stuff but she knows when to let go. She shared her story and struggle of overthinking and the process of learning through it.

Our moderator came up with few conclusions. However she mentioned that the ways she mentioned may be fit for one and not for another so the whole process is try and learn.

  • Jotting down your thoughts .

  • Listening to musics and ASMR to calm oneself

  • Ask for help

  • Spend time with positive company

  • Be the observant of your thoughts.

  • Practice mindful breathing

  • Practice writing, as it helps to organize the thought process

  • Don't try to control the past/ future experiences, as time and energy is precious.

During the chaos of overthinking this session was so calming. The time we gave into this session was all worth of it. Those shared stories and experiences in the session where everyone could relate to each other was so reassuring which helped to strengthen the bond between the participants. Everyone in the session vowed to overcome this with everything they have. Our moderator didn't hesitate and asked us to contact her in case of any difficulties. She really became HOPE for everyone struggling out there. I hope not only the ones in the session but everyone out there may have enough courage and support to fight this fight of overthinking.

At last I want to remind that its YOU, your thought so you have to OWN it.
The session was a huge success. Looking forward for more sessions.
